In today’s world, new technology has made it easier than ever for patients to enjoy better looking, brighter smiles with just a few treatments. One option commonly used to replace missing or broken teeth is All-on-4® dental implants. As with any other dental treatment, the first step in the process is to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
Understand Your Options
There is no way to approach dentistry with preconceived notions about what will work for every patient. During your initial consultation, Dr. Gielincki will discuss your options with you and determine what you hope to get out of treatment. Most patients are candidates for All-on-4® implants, but the following guidelines can help you determine if you should consider the procedure.
- Amount of jawbone – those without the adequate amount of bone to support the implant may require a bone graft before treatment.
- Medical status – your overall medical condition will be a major factor in any treatments you undergo. Uncontrolled diabetics may not be good candidates while controlled diabetics are. The best thing to do is have a full medical exam before meeting with Dr. Gielincki if you are concerned about any aspects of your overall health.
- Bad habits – those who clench their teeth and smoke may not be as successful with treatment. Treatment provides great motivation to stop bad habits, as you are exerting physical effort, time and money into getting a more attractive smile.
- Commitment – you may be asked to change some basic things about your life like your diet or time frame on dental check-ups. Commitment to treatment is a big part of success when it comes to All-on-4® implants.
